Ensobook

The 5-minute guide

One course, from setup to results. Each step takes a few minutes.

1. Set up your course

On Courses, give your course a name, code and term (“HSM 110 · Health Care in America · Fall 2026”). A course holds its exams, its students and their sections, and each student's extra time.

Have files already? Choose Bring everything you have and drop your syllabus, roster, old exams and slides together. Ensobook sorts them and shows you what it found; nothing is saved until you choose Create the course.

Just looking? Explore a sample course opens a finished exam with made-up students. It's read-only and never emails anyone.

2. Add your students

On the course's Students tab, drop your class list or paste names (one per line, with emails if you have them). Your roster carries over to every exam in the course, and extra time set here applies to all of them.

How to export your roster from Sakai

  1. In your course site, open Roster.
  2. Choose Export. Sakai downloads a spreadsheet of your class with names and emails.
  3. Drop that file on the Students tab. The Gradebook's export (Gradebook → Import/Export → Export) works too.

How to export your roster from Brightspace

  1. In your course, open Grades, then Export.
  2. Under key field choose Username; under user details tick Last Name, First Name and Email. You don't need any grade items.
  3. Choose Export to CSV, then drop the file on the Students tab.

Menus vary a little between campuses. Any CSV with names (and emails) works.

3. Add an exam

In the course, choose New exam and drop what you have: an exam in Word or PDF, a test exported from Blackboard, Brightspace or Canvas, or lecture notes and slides to draft new questions from. Review the questions and answer key, then Publish. You can also build an exam question by question.

4. Schedule a session and send codes

From the exam, schedule a session: date, time and room. Add the course's roster (or one section), and each student gets a personal code. Email codes to students sends each student theirs with a link to the screen check, or print name slips to hand out, one per student.

Ask students to run the screen check before exam day. It takes a minute and catches most problems early.

5. On exam day

Students open the start page, enter their code and share their screen; their answers save as they go. Watch everyone from Sessions: who's in, who's finished, and anyone who left the exam. Let latecomers in, or give them the full time, from the same page.

6. Results

Multiple choice is graded for you. Grade short answers on Grading (with suggested scores to check), look over any Integrity flags, then Release results when you're ready. Study guides for each student and grade downloads for Sakai or Brightspace are on the exam's Results and Study guides tabs, and the course's Results tab shows everything together.
