Quick answers for students taking an exam and instructors running one.
Taking an exam
Where do I find my code?
It's in the email with the subject “Your exam code”, or on the slip your instructor gave you, and looks like QZ-7P52Y6. Enter it on the start page (ensobook.com/start). If the name it shows isn't yours, you may have someone else's code: tell your instructor.
My code doesn't work.
Check it letter by letter (O and 0 are easy to mix up). If the exam hasn't opened yet, the page says when it does. If you're late, your instructor decides whether you can still start: raise your hand.
What do I need?
A laptop or desktop computer with Chrome, Edge or Safari. Phones and tablets, including iPads, can't share their screen, so they can't be used. Plug in your laptop if you can.
How do I share my screen?
After you start, your browser asks what to share. Choose Entire screen (not a window or a tab), then select Share. On a Mac, you may need to allow screen recording for your browser in System Settings, then reload the page.
What's recorded, and who sees it?
Your screen, from when you start until you hand in. Never your camera or microphone. Only your instructor can watch it. More on what's recorded
My Wi-Fi dropped, or my laptop restarted.
Your answers save as you go, so nothing you've typed is lost. Reconnect, open the start page and enter the same code to pick up where you left off. Your instructor can see that you were disconnected.
Why does the exam go full screen?
So nothing else sits beside it while you work. Leaving full screen (for example by pressing Esc), switching tabs or opening another app is recorded as leaving the exam. If it happens by accident, select Go full screen to carry on; your answers are saved.
I stopped sharing by accident.
The exam pauses until you share your screen again. Your instructor sets how long and how often you can be away, so share again right away. If something technical is stopping you, raise your hand.
When do I see my results?
When your instructor releases them. Go to See results and enter the same code. Until then, the page says your exam was received.
Who do I contact?
Your instructor, for anything about your exam: your code, extra time, a technical problem or your grade.
Running an exam
How do I sign in?
With the Google or Microsoft account your department invited. Use Instructor sign in. If it says your account isn't set up, ask whoever invited you to add that email.
How do I add my questions?
Create an exam and upload what you have: a Word or PDF test, slides, a spreadsheet, or a quiz export from Blackboard, Brightspace or another course site (a QTI .zip or .xml). Check the questions it found, then publish.
How do students get their codes?
Schedule a session and add your students: upload your class list from your course site (CSV or Excel) or paste names. Each student gets a code. Print the name slips and hand them out on the day.
A student can't share their screen or lost Wi-Fi.
Open the live session: anyone paused, disconnected or not started is listed first. Their answers are saved; once they reconnect and enter their code again, they continue. For a student who can't use a computer, print a backup copy from the session.
A student arrived late.
If they try to start after the late window closes, their request appears in the session. Let them start with the time left or full time, or decline.
How do grading and results work?
Multiple choice is scored automatically. Short answers come with a suggested score that you confirm or change. When you're ready, release results from the Results tab; students then see them with their code. You can download grades for Brightspace or Sakai.
Who do I contact?
The person who invited you to Ensobook.
