Ensobook

Terms of use

Draft for legal review. These terms aren't in effect yet and will change before they are.

Who we are

Ensobook is run by Ensobook LLC (“we”). You can reach us at support@ensobook.com.

What Ensobook is

Ensobook is a service for giving exams on a computer. Instructors build exams and run sessions; students take them with a code from their instructor while their screen is recorded.

Who can use it

Instructors sign in with an account their school or department has invited. Students use Ensobook only to take exams their instructor gives them, with the code from their exam email or slip. Don't share your code or sign-in with anyone else.

Age requirements

To be completed in legal review.

Using it fairly

Don't try to get around the exam rules, interfere with the service or other people's exams, or access anything that isn't yours. Your instructor and school decide what happens if an exam's rules aren't followed; Ensobook only shows them what happened.

What's recorded

During an exam, the student's screen is recorded from start until hand-in, along with their answers and when they leave the exam window. The camera and microphone are never used.

When an instructor allows tablets for an exam, a student taking it on a tablet isn't screen-recorded; their answers and when they leave the exam are still kept. Instructors can also give an exam on paper and upload the pages as scans.

Recordings, scans and answers are visible to the student's instructor. They're also processed by our service providers (hosting, storage, email and AI) only to run Ensobook. The Privacy policy lists them.

The assistant

Ensobook uses an AI assistant (Claude, made by Anthropic) to point out moments an instructor may want to check and to suggest scores for written answers. If a student leaves the exam window, a few still images are reviewed with AI to point out moments the instructor may want to check. An instructor makes every decision and confirms every grade. Exams aren't used to train the assistant.

Whose content it is

Instructors keep the rights to the exams and materials they add, and students to the answers they write. Instructors confirm they're allowed to use the questions and materials they upload. Ensobook uses this content only to run the service.

How long data is kept

By default, recordings and scans are deleted 120 days after an exam's results are released, unless they're held for an integrity review. Instructors can change this for each exam. The Privacy policy covers the rest of the data and how to ask for it to be deleted.

The service itself

We work to keep Ensobook available and answers safe, but the service is provided as it is, without guarantees. Instructors should keep a backup plan for exam day, such as the printable backup copies.

Limitation of liability

To be completed in legal review.

Ending use

To be completed in legal review.

Governing law

To be completed in legal review.

Changes

If these terms change, we'll update this page and the date below.
